Ways to Update Phoebe's Apartment for a New Era
How to Redesign Phoebe’s Apartment for Modern Times
Phoebe Buffay moved out of Monica’s and into Apartment 14 (or 16?), 5 Morton Street in the West Village, an actual address, just a block away from the exterior used for the shots of Monica’s apartment building. This was a residence owned by her grandmother, Frances, and Phoebe lived with her until her death, and continued to live in the apartment afterwards.
What would happen if Phoebe hired an interior designer in the 2020s?
What would her apartment look like?
Phoebe’s apartment in the 1990’s vs. My design in the 2020s
Phoebe is the wackiest character on the T.V. show Friends. From being able to feel the presence of her dead grandmother, driving a taxicab for a car, marrying a “gay ice dancer” so he could get a green card (very sweet), her hippity hop ball she bequeathed to Rachel, creating her own art dolls, not believing in evolution nor gravity, to having once lived in a barrel, there is no shortage of personality in Phoebe.
And so, I thought Phoebe’s 2020 apartment needed to reflect all of her wonderful traits with lots of color, layers of great patterns, and a statement making rug from be.spoken that reads “Make Waves.”
