Thanksgiving Decor Tip #1: Begin with a color palette.

Color Palette Inspiration created by Design Seeds

Use shades of just a few hues

You can use a variety of colors to create a fun table setting. Stay moderate with only a few different hues.

Consider color theory

Choosing a color palette for Thanksgiving dinner is easy if you know how to use color theory. Color theory teaches us about the relationship between colors and emotions. For example, reds are warm and energizing, while blues are calming and soothing. When choosing a color palette for Thanksgiving, start by selecting three colors representing each family member. Next, select one color that represents gratitude. Finally, select a neutral color that unifies all the other colors.

Coordinate colors

If you're planning on serving a buffet-style meal, consider selecting a color scheme that complements the foods you plan to offer. For example, if you're serving turkey, you should definitely include a bright red or orange color on your table. However, if you've decided to serve a vegetarian feast, you should avoid using red or orange because they are associated with meat.

My color palette

I wanted to keep my color palette the same as I used in 2021, so I used a photo from then to create my custom color palette. I love the softer colors that were influenced by silk flowers that I found. My home is an eclectic mix of French Country Style and Coastal Style, so the softer colors definitely work.

Tips #2: Create a mood board.

A mood board is an easy way to visualize your ideas before you begin creating them. It helps you narrow your options and determine what works best for your space. You can also use it to help you choose colors that work well together. I created a Pinterest Thanksgiving Board, and narrowed down my favorites. Follow this tutorial to create your own Thanksgiving Mood Board.

Tip #3: Make your Thanksgiving centerpiece big and bold

Add Candles

If you're looking for a simple yet elegant centerpiece idea, consider adding a few colorful candles to your table. Candles come in various colors, shapes, sizes, and scents, making them perfect for any occasion. Try mixing different candle styles to create a unique centerpiece.

Select Flowers

If you want to add an extra flair to your table, try using a large vase filled with fresh flowers. Flowers look beautiful in every setting, whether you're having a casual dinner party or a formal affair. You can choose from many flower types, including roses, tulips, daisies, carnations, and many others. To keep your flowers fresh, place them in water until you're ready to use them.

You can use fresh ones from your backyard or buy them at a local flower shop. Or, if you prefer, you can always go with artificial options such as silk flowers or potted plants. Remember that whatever type of flower you choose, make sure it complements your other decorations. For instance, if you're going for a rustic look, opt for dried herbs or branches. On the other hand, if you'd rather keep things simple, stick with a few sprigs of greenery.

You can easily create a beautiful centerpiece using a variety of flowers. Start by choosing a vase that fits your style. Next, decide what kind of arrangement you want to create. Do you want to add height? Try placing single stems in the middle of the table. Or, if you've got room, consider creating a large floral display.

Just be sure to use flowers that are appropriate for the season. For example, choose reds, oranges, and yellows if you're going for fall colors. And if you're planning on having a green Thanksgiving, go for greens such as ivy, ferns, and grasses.

Make Your Own Chinoiserie Pumpkin

A chinoiserie pumpkin centerpiece is an easy way to bring a touch of French style to your Thanksgiving table. It's also great to incorporate fall colors into your table setting.

The best thing about this centerpiece? You can create one yourself using items you already own. For example, you could use a sizeable orange pumpkin from your yard, paint it white, and add some blue swirl accents. Or, if you want to go all out, you could buy a real chinoiserie pumpkin and decorate it with colorful leaves, flowers, or feathers.
